Tail Wags Pet Care is owned and operated by Mary Markakis and Kate Hall.  Owned and operated in Kingstowne, Tail Wags primarily provides dog walking and pet sitting services to our Kingstowne/Alexandria neighbors!  A small, intimate business run exclusively by pet lovers, Tail Wags guarantees safe and dependable services built to fit your needs.  Tail Wags would love the opportunity to walk your dog, visit your cat, or pet sit the canine or feline member of your family while you're away!  Your dog will be happier than ever to go for his/her afternoon stroll, have a slumber party, or have their own pet pal while you're away!  We work our hardest to get as many tail wags as possible.  Please contact us for additional information or questions.  Call us today and let your dog's tail wag on! 

 

 

Co-Owner  & Pet Care Specialist:  Kate Hall, Ph.D.

Kate has a dog, a cat, and a horse.  Having grown up riding horses, Kate dedicated several years of her life working with former race horses and various therapeutic riding programs in Massachusetts.  These riding programs, which help physically and mentally challenged youths develop remarkable and priceless bonds with equally remarkable horses, provided Kate with an immeasurably incredible experience.  Kate has also been involved with pet rescue organizations in Massachusetts, New York and Virginia. She earned her PhD in Public Policy at Virginia Commonwealth University back in 2016. In addition to owning and operating Tail Wags, Kate teaches several business management classes part time at the University of Maryland Global Campus. Recently, Kate also started an animal photography business! Co-Owner & Pet Care Specialist:  Mary Markakis, M.A., M.F.A

 

Mary currently has one kitty, Bailey Hallmark.  Mary and her first pet, Sparky, shared an immediate bond; his untimely passing motivated Mary to become involved in various care/shelter organizations whose mission it was to protect and/or save animals from unsafe environments.  Mary has since been involved, in some way or another, with pet rescue organizations across the country, fostering, transporting, and volunteering to provide daily care and/or find homes for various animals in Pennsylvania, New York, Arkansas and Virginia.   Mary recently finished her MFA at George Mason University and now also teaches writing courses part time at American University.

Daily Dog Walking Specialist: Rainey Chase

​

Rainey has been a great addition to our Tail Wags Team! She is a Navy spouse with 2 kiddos and 4 furry kiddos—two dogs, Maury and Stockley, and two cats, Fred and Ginger. Rainey has been a pet sitter off and on most of her life and has all sorts of pets from cats and dogs, to birds, fish, and hermit crabs, to hamsters and guinea pigs!

Gail has been with Tail Wags for almost ten years! She is the mother of one furry kid named Sassy! Formerly a client, we met Gail through pet sitting her love bugs. Gail also runs her own small business, Gail Friday, where she offers an array of personal concierge services.
